Have gotten some reports about players blaming EVE for rebooting their system. Some cases involve the Blaster Worm. There have been bonefide cases of EVE rebooting system, through fragile video drivers, we have jumped around most of these cases in 1162.

Player blog

Would any one be interested in writing a player blog? It would be a place were players would write about their day to day life in EVE for others to read and comment on. It would be hosted here at the player web site in a similar way as the dev blog. I realise that some live more secret lives than others but I just wanted to know if any one would be interested doing it. If anyone is already doing it, I would be interested in a link to it…

Extended downtime extended..

Unscheduled downtime

Yesterday evening at 23:40 half of the cluster and a switch went offline due to a power-supply failure in one of our cabinets at the hosting center. At 01:00 we rebooted the cluster at half capacity, which was enough to service the players at that time. Power was restored to the cabinet at 05:15 and the rest of the nodes were promptly started to rejoin the cluster. Apart from the 1 hour 20 min total outage between 23:40 and 01:00 this should not have been noticeable. The source of the power fail...

EVE crashes on startup and viruses

We have been diagnosing some support incidents were EVE crashes on startup and must be reinstalled to work again. All the cases we have seen so far involve a virus, often Parite. Even though that particular virus usually doesn't manifest its presence in any way, it doesn't cope with EVE and crashes when an infected EVE is run.

EVE optimized

Since release we have optimised EVE considerably both in loading and general operations (you might not have noticed as the improvement has been gradual). Unscheduled downtime 17:00- 17:20 GMT

Fixed the slots what were only available to NPC corp members. Now all 32 slots should be available at all. Increased rental period from 3 to 5 days, will only affect rentals after the change (old rentals are still 3 days). Gave research slots to players that incorrectly didn't get them on Friday Fixed stored procedure that incorrectly reported a slot not having been used, even though there was a blueprint in it. Lost time

If you were just about to complete a big copy/research/manufacturing process when the cancellation due to backlog hit on Thursday. You can petition the GMs to add you to the list of cases we are going to fix. We had some problems with constructing a SQL/cursor to detect the cases automatically on a global scale, we are having the GMs gather then up to fix this on a case by case basis.

Lost blueprints

There have been some cases were the blueprints are disappearing. The don't actually disappear, they just become invisible. This happens when you install a blueprint in a slot but don't have enough minerals. Players often do this to see mineral requirements. As there aren't enough minerals, no job is created, making it look like the blueprint has disappeared (it's in a slot with no job). In this case there are 2 ways to get it back, cancel the lease of the slot or petition a GM to eject the bluep...

Slot backlog bills refund

Slot backlog bills refund As a part of undoing the slot rental being cancelled due to billing backlog, it was decided to refund all backlog bills paid yesterday. I just wanted to share the numbers with you as they are quite interesting. Yesterday 4.508 distinct owners paid backlog bills for 1.370.279.688 ISK in 49.657 transactions, that’s quite a sum.

[Update] Slots and billing

We have found a solution to the problem, which I think should be agreeable to most. We will effectively double the available slots at each station. We will work out, from the backup taken before the patch was applied, who lost slots. Those that lost slots, will be given slots from the new pool. We will also wipe all backlog bills.

In version 1077 there was a bug in the billing system for station resources. It basically caused it to not send out bills for the slots. This let to players using the slots without paying for them. One of the fixes in 1105 was to fix up the billing system; a part of that fix was to work on the backlog of unpaid bills.

New TQ Backup restored to the Test server

Once more we have restored a TQ backup to the Test server and run the SQL conversion scripts on it, that are going to be run on TQ tomorrow. The scripts convert ongoing skill training, agent missions and corporation structure. The conversions are needed as the patch brings needed improvements to these systems, along with many other nice things. We have already tested this 2 times, so this makes 3.

Overextended downtime 2003.07.01

We had to schedule an extended downtime today to do some over due database maintenance. Over the 2 months that we have been live, vast amounts of logs have been produced; this has been slowly degrading SQL server performance. It first became and issue last Sunday. Database load coupled with node deaths as a result of that, was the biggest reason for EVE not setting a new simultaneous users record last Sunday (we have set a new record each Sunday since release) and signup/churn last week was more...

Blueprint copies

Currently the difference between blueprint originals and blueprint copies is too little. An idea to fix this is to give the maker of the copy the power to declare how many items can be produced with the copy. This allows for controlled subcontracting: "I give you a copy for 10 5Z-5 Neutralizing ECM Eruption, you give me 7 and you can keep 3.

Live fast, die young

Anyone interested in a character creation option that allows you to train skills at double the time as normal character does. The flip side would be that such characters would suffer from perma-death (i.e. if podded, could never be played again). A moderation could be to have 50% faster learning and loose all skills on death, not quite perma-death but still a big enough penalty to justify the bonus.
