The changes are still some what away from going live on Tranquility but will soon get into a balancing and testing phase on the Development Server (Chaos), the organization for the distribution is at the last stage but the tuning of new features for the individual NPC's is still in development form.

EVE CSS status report: "Captain, we need more power!"

By CCP Arkanon

Hello everyone and congratulations on our shiny new record of 10.396! Unfortunately we have also broken another, less pleasant record here at GM HQ, which is the highest number of concurrant petitions in our queue since launch. The number stands at around 1300 right now, and as each case needs to be processed and investigated, we will not be able to keep answering times as low as we'd like.

The Tranquility Cluster and the next phase

By CCP Oveur

Tranquility, now been to hell, see it freeze over a couple of times and is now back, currently consists of about 40 machines in addition to support servers. The recent upgrade involved expansions to our FAStT600 with an EXP700 and adding 14 disks.

Just when we thought hell couldn't freeze much more over

By CCP Oveur

Today something fubbed in our raid disk arrays that caused them to start resynchronizing themselves. This is a heavy process and severely limits throughput. The load however kept increasing drastically and when we reached 7000 users the throughput wasn't enough to handle the resynch along with the 7000.

Well, first phase of hardware upgrades done!

By CCP Oveur

Been a long day for us here, the hardware upgrades didn't want go as planned. Some of the disks for our database upgrade were getting delayed until later into the day. Eventually Mr. Murphy did his part and they didn't arrive, much to our pleasure. We had to change the configuration of the disk volumes on the database and how the individual tables and logs were supposed to go on to them.

Catching up on the last major bugs

By CCP Oveur

Well, after yesterday where we fixed the SQL and server stability, we're now squishing out the most severe bugs. Most prominent was bill payment, since it was almost everyone that was affected and could have proven disasterous if everybody had lost their lab/factory slots. Second was a break in the patcher builder which resulted in some people getting a broken login screen. These are both fixed, bills was done serverside and the broken login will come in an optional client patch today, but for t...

The thin red line

By CCP Hellmar

What a day. As you have noticed that today was not our best moment. The instability that followed the deployment of today’s patch was related to the little margin we currently have to play with on Tranquility. Today’s patch contained some SQL statements that were just a little bit more resource intensive than before.

As you are all probably well aware of, EVE has outgrown current cluster hardware. We are now finalizing the hardware upgrade plan. The upgrade we are planning is considerable, many aspects of the cluster will be doubled. Only thing currently holding us back is availability and delivery times for the components.

Decentralization of highway systems

By CCP Oveur

As I'm sure you have noticed, the health of Tranquility, our dear live system, hasn't been up to specs the last weeks. The reason is a common phenomenon in MMOG games called "Hotspots". In our world you have commonly heard referred to them as "Yulai", "Luminaire" and "Pator" to name a few. For short, it's when you have centralized points where you have a large percentage of the population in the same place.

Buddy program Extended

By CCP Hellmar

We have extended the buddy program to offer 7 days instead of 3 days. Based on experience we have found out that 3 days is way too short to get to know EVE. We have extended some Mining and Missile skill paths to counter possible alt-abuse. So if you have friends you think would like to try EVE, you can now send them 7 day keys

Upcoming Balance Changes

By Eight

We are preparing to make some balance changes. Several are intended to make smaller ships more survivable versus weapons designed to fight larger targets. That is, large battleship weapons versus frigates, and so on. The accuracy formula has been adjusted to make the Signature Radius ship stat much more significant when determining the tracking penalty.

Bugs, Testing and Servers

By CCP Redundancy

We have recently added a third publicly accessible Eve server called ‘Entropy’, which is listed in the newer versions of the Eve client as ‘Test Server’ [Chaos is still available as ‘Development Server’]. Entropy is a small multi-node setup that’s just a bit closer to the state of Tranquility (TQ) than Chaos is, and will run the current TQ version for testing purposes until the creation of a new release candidate build.
