Security status

Deep space is not for the faint of heart and even the most well-prepared and experienced pilots are cautious when leaving the relative safety of Empire-controlled areas. Each system in EVE is given a security tag between 1.0 and 0.0, where 1.0 systems are generally safe while those judged 0.0 are rather dangerous places to be if you don't plan ahead.

The more secure a system, the quicker CONCORD’s response will be to unsolicited weapon fire though the law tends to avoid 0.0 systems. Mining in 1.0 and 0.9 systems and traveling through any system rated 0.6 or above is generally very safe, but this doesn’t guarantee you’ll make it to the end of your journey alive.

Keep an eye on local chat channels to see who’s around. You can RIGHT-CLICK on players' icons in the Chat window and select "More Info" to find out their security ratings, employment histories and details of their standings with other organizations within EVE.

Before embarking on a long journey it’s wise to check the NavMap (F10). You can use the advanced features on the "World Map Control Panel" to check how many players are currently in space along your route, how many pod killings there have been in the last 24 hours or even if there are any members of your corporation nearby. If a trek through dangerous systems is unavoidable, be wise and recruit some reliable wingmen to join you.
