Lotteries Growing in Popularity

Over the past few years lotteries have gradually become increasingly popular throughout New Eden. Recently, however, the industry has exploded with an estimated 50,000 pilots partaking in lotteries such as SOMERblink, Ships of EVE, and BIG Lottery. Almost every lottery has its own set of rules and characteristics; pilots should familiarise themselves with how a particular lottery works before gambling.

Some of the first lotteries to dot New Eden began on the CONCORD pilot messaging boards. Ships of EVE was one of such lotteries, with prizes ranging from a single faction battleship to portfolios of hundreds of ships. Many similar lotteries, often run by individual pilots, still dot the messaging boards to this day.

BIG Lottery, another "traditional" lottery, operates almost identically. Pilots can buy tickets for 1 thousand ISK, which are then entered into weekly drawing for prizes of up to 5 million ISK.

SOMERblink, on the other hand, operates quite differently. Pilots deposit ISK into an account, which can then be used to buy tickets for "blinks." These are small drawings involving as few as 8 players that may only last for a few minutes. For pilots who still like the idea of larger prizes, there are "gigablinks" which are larger drawings involving many more pilots and offer prizes such as capital ships and titan skill books.

While many pilots are drawn to the lotteries for the prizes, some simply do it for sport. One such pilot, Kaldor Mentat, remarked that it is just about taking part for him: It does not really matter that much if I win or lose, although winning something is of course always nice. "He also offered advice to players looking to roll the dice for the first time: "Never wager what you cannot afford to lose."

Eve University Opening 3 New Ethnic Corporations

Our universe of New Eden is expanding by leaps and bounds. We are witnessing a unique time in history when the opportunity to become a capsuleer is being offered to more cultures than ever before. Eve University is capitalizing on this with the addition of new divisions.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting with Kelduum Revaan, CEO of Eve University and CSM7 representative. Their organization is spearheading the welcoming of new capsuleers into New Eden with the formation of three new corporations targeting three major ethnic groups within New Eden - German, Russian, and Japanese, with possible corporate expansions into other New Eden ethnicities if these endeavors are successful. Each group will have its own CEO and command structure, all under the guidance and direction of Eve University.

"Progress has been slow but steady. Most of our work has been toward ensuring our frameworks we have can scale and support different languages, as well as selecting the Director of Operations for each of the new corporations.", stated Kelduum. "Our existing Ivy League Navy will be expanded to encompass the new corporations, and we are working on cross-language fleet communications protocols to allow non-native speakers to both lead and take part in fleets."

When asked about how the different cultures would coexist with their unique mannerisms and traditions, Kelduum had this to say, "The differing cultures are the reasons why we formed new corporations rather than have the new pilots within E-UNI itself. Differing languages are of course a major issue, but the core concepts of EVE University itself, cooperation, and sharing experience, is something that is common to most cultures."

Public relations, and publicity have been slow but steady according to Kelduum, however Eve University has a significant list of capsuleers standing by to assist the new pilots in their native languages.

For now, the community should keep an eye on the UniWiki and watch for announcements about content which is flagged for translation. If you, or someone you know is interested in helping out with EVE Akademie, EVE Institut or EVE Daigaku, then drop an EVEmail to Kelduum Revaan.

Drone Regions Could Suffer Without Extracted Alloys

The Drone Regions have undergone a dramatic reshaping as CONCORD begin issuing bounties upon the destruction of Rogue Drones. In line with this change, valuable extracted drone alloys are no longer available.

Zazhas, an officer within Ethereal Dawn [ED], believes that these changes will bring about "more co-operation" between miners and combat pilots. When it comes to manufacturing, he feels that while transport of goods can be problematic in null-sec, these changes may require a few more imports.

Syndic Naismith, a member of Broken Toys [FUHRD], believes that the changes will hurt budding industrial alliances that used the Drone Regions as an industrial hub for manufacturing, but also concedes that the amount of minerals made available by drone alloys did provide Drone Region industrialists with an unfair advantage.

While CONCORD pays bounties in line with the destruction of other null-sec pirates, combat pilots have pre-emptively commented that Rogue Drones apparently drop very little items of value and as such both industrial and combat pilots may struggle.

While alliances move in and out of null-sec space all the time, some entities such as Ethereal Dawn are there to stay and it is those that hope the Drone Regions will not become a mass wasteland of poverty and destruction.

Pandemic Legion Titan is Destroyed

Amamake, Heimatar - A few nights ago, a mixed fleet of Faction Warfare capsuleers, mostly in dreadnaughts and battleships, ambushed and destroyed a Pandemic Legion titan in Amamake.

The planning itself was done in secrecy - only the planners themselves, Tekitha and Lock Out of Shadows of the Federaion and First General of Wolfsbrigade, along with a few trusted aides were informed of the plan, with the hope that it would help keep details of the attack from Pandemic Legion's spy network.

Most of the members of the 85-man fleet did not know the full plan even as they set off for the selected locations and found ships waiting for them there. Before long they were rewarded with a sighting of a titan.

Cloaked ships suddenly lit off cynosaural beacons, a titan jump bridge was established and the fleet jumped in to attack the Erebus.

That part of the plan can be said to have gone off perfectly. Unfortunately a large contingent of the Pandemic Legion fleet was only one jump away, waiting for their scouts to report a target, and most of the combined Shadows of the Federation and Wolfsbrigade fleet was destroyed in short order.

When asked for comment on the destruction of their fleet,Tekitha had the following to say: "I'd say 30 insured dreads is less than 30 billion ISK lost, the titan alone was worth triple that."

CSM Candidate Interviews: Part III

With just hours left in the CSM elections, this may be the last chance for voters to learn a little about the candidates.

Interstellar Correspondents asked candidates several questions in order to better understand who they are; where do they live? What do they do? What qualifications do they have? Some of the candidates are very serious while others take a lighter view of the universe we live in.

We have only included candidates that responded to our request. The field is much larger, and we encourage you to vote for a candidate that you trust. The full list of candidates and voting opportunities is in the link at the bottom of this article.

Sollana

Sollana operates in nullsec space around the Providence region. She focuses on industry and combat and claims that "defending Providence is a busy pastime." She is currently a director in the executive corporation of CVA and "when needed acts on behalf of our CEO within our corp, and with others on the behalf of CVA and its allies."

While Sollana believes that the CSM system is "not broken", she thinks it is "in need of some TLC." She claims that "capsuleers are a fickle bunch, CSM is here to get there view accross in a sensible, calm manner..."

Blackberry Bold

Blackberry Bold prefers to operate in high and low security space. He does a little bit everything; Fleet boosting the miners, answering random questions in local, recon/observation. He claims to be "working to make the CSM a more efficient mechanism for... communications.

Blackberry Bold believes that the CSM system isn't very efficient in it's current form and that the people would be better served with direct polling on issues of import.

Fon Revedhort

Fon Revedhort is a combat junkie that has been making live action combat films of his exploits for about four years now. Posting mostly in Russian, he has been sharing his experience and thoughts on local forums.

Fon believes that the CSM is of great value as it is composed of active pilots that can provide valuable feedback.

Alekseyev Karrde

Alekseyev Karrde lists combat and leadership as his top duties in New Eden. He lists himself as a co-founder of the Merc Contracts channel, a channel which "lists all of EVE's reputable merc alliances and has virtually eliminated merc-scamming." He also represented the players on CSM4.

As for the CSM, Alekseyev believes that null sec capsuleers are "slighty overrepresented due to this idea that each powerbloc needs their interests represented on the council instead of representing 0.0 players as a whole. This will persist until voter turnout... forces blocs to combine their votes behind fewer candidates."

Mike Azariah

Working out of wormhole space for now, Mike Azariah is a social capsuleer that occasionally involves himself in incursions and escalations in the wormhole. Among his pastimes is writing commentary on the CSM and also "keeping tabs on the Help channel and answer new pilot questions now and again."

Mike believes that the CSM could be improved in some ways, but believes that "the far reaching effects of a good or poor decision leave no pilot untouched. They key is for the CSM to recognize the scope of power they wield."

T'amber Anomandari Demaleon

T’amber Anomandari Demaelon spends most of her time “in station and chat channels” planning community events and coordinating them. In this capacity she has ran many “free events” over the years to engage pilots from all over New Eden including the well known "Ships of Eve" lottery. Between events she fundraises.

As for the CSM she notes that nullsec pilots have a superior vote coordination due to the fragmented nature of highsec players. As for the effects on the average pilot, she notes that “most pilots are surely to be relieved when the spamming and blatant bribery ends at the end of the candidacy period.”

Mintrolio

Mintrolio splits his time between low sec (30%), high sec (30%) and null sec (40%), where he engages in the monotonous activity of “KILLING AND PODING, KILLING AND PODING” all day. He confirms “YES. MANY TIME” to his community leadership experience, although we are unsure what he is referring to at this late time.

As for the CSM itself, he sees no issue with either the current system nor the effect it has on capsuleers themselves.

Skye Aurorae

Skye Aurorae operates all over New Eden, though she admits “from an income perspective Hi-sec is my lynchpin.” Here she engages in industry and trading to support her combat operations. As for leadership, she has helped recruit, train and attract new pilots to New Eden.

When asked about the CSM, she is optimistic and believes that it is “getting less and less broken every day.” The CSM itself “doesn’t really make decisions,” but rather expresses opinions which help shape the future of New Eden.

Vincent Athena

Vincent Athena lives in wormhole space spending most of his time doing industry, missions and exploration. He has not partaken in community leadership, but believes that the “role of the CSM is to communicate” rather than to lead.

In this sense the CSM role is not to “govern” but rather to “represent” pilots. Otherwise the average effect the CSM has on pilots is slight.

Korvin

Korvin spends time all over New Eden as he likes to “change environments and scenery” often. As for his activities when logged into his Neocomm, they include “the art of fear and destruction, PVP, Leadership, Diplomacy and Recruit Training.”

Korvin appeared amazed at the thought of a “governance system” in New Eden. As for the CSM itself, he refers to the “butterfly effect.” The CSM creates butterflies and waits for changes to occur.

Kelduum RevaanKelduum Revaan spends most of his time in highsec. The majority of his time is spent leading and being a diplomat interacting with members of EVE University and third parties. “For the last three years I have been the leader of EVE University” which provides hand-on training for new pilots.

When asked about the CSM he does not consider it broken, “especially as we are seeing reports of greater turnouts in each election term.” However he does have ideas concerning the voting system. “While many may not feel that the CSM has any effect,” Kelduum is certain that their voices are heard by higher powers in New Eden.

Roc Wieler

Roc Wieler spends his time in all areas of New Eden. He takes part in ratting and combat as well as industrial pursuits when logged into his Neocomm. He is an avid writer in the community sharing knowledge and speaking with other pilots throughout New Eden.

He feels that the CSM is broken, but does admit that “once you get to see a glimpse of the current CSM in action, you realize their efforts do affect us daily."

Meissa Anunthiel

Meissa Anunthiel spends her time in all areas of New Eden. She engages in combat in low and nullsec as well as ratting in wormhole space and industry in highsec. She tends to favour “more industry in terms of time, but PVP in terms of intensity.”

She feels that in her alliance her role is to provide council while “leaving the spotlight to others, just like in the CSM.” She also feels that the CSM “works really well” and has “accomplished much over the terms.” The CSM provides feedback on all changes in New Eden. The goal is to “better meet the needs of the community.”

CSM Candidate Interviews: Part II

With just hours left in the CSM elections, this may be the last chance for voters to learn a little about the candidates.

Interstellar Correspondents asked candidates several questions in order to better understand who they are; where do they live? What do they do? What qualifications do they have? Some of the candidates are very serious while others take a lighter view of the universe we live in. Here are their stories:

Issler Dainze

Issler Dainze spends most of her life in lowsec and is “interested in seeing lowsec made relevant.” Her time is spent managing logistical chains for her industrial corp which produces T2 ships. As for her role in New Eden’s community, she claims to have driven the issue of “ambulation” and has served on the CSM twice.

When asked about issues regarding capsuleer governance, she believes that it is “all but guaranteed to be run by the powerblocks that do not represent the majority of New Eden.” As for the CSM’s purpose, she believes that the council does influence the future and the shape which New Eden will take.

Two Step

Two Step lives mostly in wormhole space. His primary activity is combat, however he also engages in “T2 and T3 production in highsec space.” He fashions himself one of the “more communicative CSMs out there.” He believes that this allows him to stay on top of issues and complaints.

When asked about CSM he explains that its role is not to “govern,” but rather to “communicate the community’s complaints” and propose solutions. He feels that the introduction of corporate bookmarks was a direct result of his lobbying.

Elise Randolph

Elise Randolph is most active in low and nullsec space while maintaining empire research and invention operations. She is active primarily in combat situations where she praises Red vs. Blue and gives an emphatic “Go Red!” She partakes in FCing and has been an alternate member of CSM6.

Although she lacks the support of a “bloc vote” she believes the current system to be effective. As for the role of the CSM she feels that it’s work is to “steer the boat in the right direction.”

The Mittani

The Mittani lives in Nullsec space. While logged into his Neocomm he is concerned with managing the capsuleers under his command and engaging in “grand strategy, diplomacy as well as espionage.” He is the current Chairman of CSM6 and leader of both Goonswarm and the Clusterf**k.

He feels that the current CSM system is perfectly fine. Believing this, he knows that the CSM’s impact is “subtle,” though effective as a “lobbying group.”

corebloodbrothers

corebloodbrothers is active in nullsec combat and claims 3,000 kills to his name. He is also involved with logistical work though does his best to maximize his time as an FC and alliance leader. He feels that his candidacy “shows commitment” as a community leader while also spending time in help chats. He quips that while helpful he often feels the urge to “just spam plex for vote scams instead of engaging in meaningful discussions.”

He feels that without the support of a block vote life has been difficult as he has been “ignored by EVE24 and other sites.” Though he knows there is a vast silent majority out there. It is this group of capsuleers with which he hopes to be in touch with.

CSM Candidate Interviews: Part I

With the CSM elections coming soon, Interstellar Correspondents asked candidates several questions in order to better understand who they are; where they live? What they do? What qualifications they have?

Some of the candidates are very serious while others take a lighter view of the universe we live in. Here are the first of their stories:

Darius III

Darius III spends most of his time in low and null-sec engaging in combat. When asked about what leadership role he has taken in New Eden, he responds by saying he has “taken initiative in shutting down incursions” in order to bring to light their greater implications across New Eden. Not to mention his leadership when it comes to innovative new ways in “tear farming”.

He also believes that capusleer governance is “perfect”. Any system that allows “vote scamming represents [New Eden] to a ‘T’”. As a CSM he belives he has “personally influenced the lives of 1500 plus [capsuleers] by killing them, not including the 100 plus pods that were AFK in Jita”.

Greene Lee

Greene Lee spends most of her time in null-sec as a member of [AAA], but admits to “knowing high-sec life very well”. She engages in combat, diplomacy, alliance leadership and leading non-combat operations. She maintains her integrity by being active in New Eden for many years without changing banners.

When asked if she believed New Eden’s form of capsuleer governance to be "broken" her response was simply “is it?” As for the CSM itself, she feels that it acts to aid in the development of New Eden and finds serious issues when they crop up.

Psychobitch

Psychobitch operates in high, low and null-sec and when signed into her neocom participates in all activities New Eden has to offer, despite it often being as “painful” as it can be. She is an Alliance leader and regularly participates in New Eden’s community.

She believes New Eden’s form of capsuleer governance to be “entirely” broken, and thinks that the current CSM has introduced a “new level of F A I L” to the lives of capusleers.

Xenuria

Xenuria is mostly active in high-sec space and engaging in “industry and missions" however she likes to try "new things and learn more" about New Eden. When asked about her community roles, she refers tp her directorship of Hydra Reloaded as well as her role of CEO of The Marcabian 5th Invasion Fleet. Meanwhile she offers “leadership advice” to various other alliances.

When asked about New Eden’s capsuleer governing body, she feels that the problems are “speculative and open to interpretation”. As for the CSM’s effect on the lives of capsuleers, she thinks it “depends on the people who are part of the CSM”.

Trebor Daehdoow

Trebor Daehdoow engages in small gang combat, industry as well as logistical work for his corporations in all areas of New Eden. He does not believe it his “role to lead,” in New Eden, but rather to “zealously represent the interests of the community”.

He feels that the CSM’s “voting system is horribly broken” by giving “too much power to organised voting blocs while under-representing the interests of the wider community, especially high-sec pilots”.

High-Sec Incursions Too Rewarding

New Eden - A group of capsuleers, led by Krissada, are attempting to disrupt the "ISK farming" currently occurring at Sansha Incursion sites. They are planning to destroy Sansha motherships as soon as they arrive through their wormholes and in doing so hope to cut back the amount of ISK earned by capsuleers who attend the incursions simply to collect bounties on the lesser Sansha forces in the area.

Krissada is apparently aggrieved that "bears" are able to "farm" for ISK in high-sec Incursions with little risk as long as they do not destroy the Sansha mothership. This, to her, is a blatant misuse of CONCORD's reward system and she is focused on stopping what she believes is an "ISK faucet". Disgruntled with how Incursions are fought she revealed her belief that "Sansha forces appear to be infinite, as is the depth of CONCORD's wallet".

Krissada's plan is to destroy the Sansha motherships as soon as possible which will hopefully cause the immediate withdrawal of Sansha forces and prevent further bounties being collected by "Incursion Bears". She hopes to force those wanting to make ISK from Incursions into low-sec and thus ensuring when Sansha forces arrive in high-sec they are dealt with quickly by capsuleers who want to see victory rather than reward.

Giving firm backing to Krissada, CSM member Darius III seemed to agree that high-sec Incursions are no longer about defeating Sansha's Nation but more about what can be earned: "The sites pay too much with almost no risk."

HardinSalvor, an Incursion community leader, reflected on how things have changed due to the lure of ISK: "Once the influence dropped low enough for the mom to spawn, people would rush to kill it. Through some diplomacy, a status quo was created where we avoid killing the mom as long as possible."

Some questionable math by community leaders sees them believing that an incredible 621 billion ISK is paid out by CONCORD every week from Incursions. If the numbers are accurate, it may be no surprise that a prominent Fleet Commander from the BTL Incursion channel is alleged to have bribed Darius III with 500 million ISK to not destroy a mothership during an Incursion.

There is a lot of ISK to be made for those brave enough to fight against Sansha's Nation and with fleets now forming with the sole purpose of stopping that ISK being collected, as well as loyalists already attempting to aid Sansha forces, there may come a time soon that there are no capsuleers left to fight against Sansha's Nation as they will all be fighting each other.

GalNet References

Krissada's rallying cry

Are you affected by the events in this article?
Flight of a Thousand Rifters

Vlillirier, Placid - On the 17th of December, Marlona Sky undocked in a Moros dreadnought named Intigo with the intention of having it blown up.

Marlona, inspired by the event "Bring me the head of Kirith Kodachi", decided to throw an event with billions worth of prizes to be won by participants. The First Tier prizes, including a Vindicator battleship worth in excess of 1.1 billion ISK and a Proteus with five subsystems, were limited to capsuleers flying frigates or destroyers.

When interviewed after the conclusion of the event, Marlona had the following to say: "I really had no idea what kind of ships were waiting for me... I thought for sure it would be a tonne of battleships ready to melt my Moros fast, but instead I was greeted by a wonderful sight. A giant cloud of frigates and destroyers."

A final total of 153 capsuleers took part in the killing of the Moros, with five managing to get blows in on Marlona's capsule. Prizes were awarded using a complicated points system, with the top prize, the Vindicator battleship, going to Galactica789.

Galactica789 thought it had been a nice surprise to come in first and take the Vindicator, as he had initially thought he'd come in third. Points scored on three kills during the event, however, put Galactica789 far in the lead for the win.

Marlona plans a similar event for an unconfirmed date in the new year.

Loyalist of the Year Award Announced

Amarr Empire, New Eden - Each year, PIE Inc. sponsors awards aimed at recognising those who have taken extraordinary steps to further the Amarr Empire over the previous twelve months.

The first of the two awards is the "Amarrian Capsuleer of the Year". This award is limited to pilots of Amarrian, Khanid, or Ni-Kunni descent who have been recognised for having done the most for the Empire. The second award is the "Loyal Servant of the Year". This award recognises the pilot, of any race or descent, who has done the most to further the goals of the Empire.

The nomination process is fairly straightforward. People may make nominations for the appropriate awards as long as they are not nominating any current member of PIE Inc., a member of their current corporation, or themselves. In addition to this, current members of PIE Inc. are not permitted to make nominations.

Admiral Rodj Blake, of PIE Inc., stated how it works: "Although it is PIE who decides upon the winners, we do not nominate them. Therefore, for someone to win, they must have impressed not only PIE but the wider capsuleer community. As such their deed can be held up as an example of what it means to serve the Empire and serve as an inspiration to others who may wish to follow in their footsteps."

Nominations will close on the 3rd of December. At that time, PIE Inc. leadership will take all nominations, reduce them to a list of no more than 6 pilots for each award, and deliver these ballots to the PIE Inc. membership for voting. Admiral Blake said the plan is to announce the winners on the 17th of December.

"The Amarrian Capsuleer of the Year" will be awarded a Navy Issue Apocalypse, while the winner of the "Loyal Servant of the Year" will receive a Navy Issue Omen.
