The Council of Stellar Management

The Council of Stellar Management (CSM) is a player-elected council who represent the views of the members of the EVE Online community to CCP. To quote part of the CSM white paper summary:

The purpose of the CSM is to represent society interests to CCP. This requires active engagement with the player community to master EVE issue awareness, understanding, and evaluation in the context of the greatest good for the greater player base.

Upon being elected, the members of the CSM are able to communicate closely with CCP through two primary avenues;

  • There are at least two summits held each term (as of CSM5), in which the members of the council are flown to Reykjavik to spend three days in meetings with CCP staff. The staff who the CSM meet are from almost all departments, and the meetings are regarding whichever issues the CSM choose to raise.
  • Access to an internal forum which only the CSM and CCP staff have access to, where discussions regarding various topics can be brought up by either group in a less formal manner than the summits.

The methods in which the CSM choose to utilise the avenues of communication they gain is for them to decide, and each CSM can change the framework put in place by the previous councils as they choose. The community have two sections of the official EVE forums that can be utilised to communicate with the CSM and other players on CSM issues, the “Assembly Hall” for the purpose of raising specific issues to the CSM; and the “Jita Park Speakers Corner” for discussion of anything regarding the CSM in a less formal way.

Delegates of the CSM are free to put in as much time and effort as they see fit, and it has been the case that many have allocated a very substantial part of their time to this role. Whilst almost all CSM members do far more than they are required to do, the only required obligations are to attend the CSM-CCP summits in Reykjavik, attend meetings with the CSM on a schedule to be decided by a majority of the CSM and to be involved in creation of the meeting minutes for official CSM-CCP summits.

During the election period you will be able to see a list of the candidates running for one of the nine positions on the council on the candidates page. If your account is active and older than 30 days, you will be able to place a vote for your chosen candidate. The nine candidates who receive the highest number of votes will become the delegates of the next CSM, and the five candidates in positions ten through fourteen will become alternates.
